The CMA Music Festival is one of country music’s biggest events of the year in Nashville, Tennessee. More than 100,000 fans come out for the four day festival with one of the largest venues inside Nissan Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans. It’s a huge responsibility for Mike Carlton and his Saint Thomas Emergency Medical Services team. They are the sole health care provider at the stadium with a staff of more than 40 paramedics and EMT’s keep people safe and healthy. Heat is always a concern this time of the year. That’s exactly why Saint Thomas Health has “cooling stations” all around the stadium to keep fans from overheating.
As you might imagine, the Saint Thomas Health team treats anything and everything from dehydration to seizures to even heart attacks. But, Carlton says one of the most common things they treat are fans getting blisters from wearing boots with no socks!
