Stroke is the #5 cause of death among adults in the United States and the #1 cause of disability, according to the American Stroke Association.  Dr. Frank Lafranchise, a neurologist at Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, part of Ascension, says knowing the symptoms of stroke can save your life.  Often times, Dr. Lafranchise says when someone is having a stroke, they tend to ignore the signs.  Every minute counts… literally.  For every minute that goes by when having a stroke, two million brain cells are lost.

When a stroke happens, the popular belief is it only happens to elderly citizens.  “About a third of all strokes happen in people under the age of 55”, says Dr. Lafranchise.  “In the younger people, we usually have to look for unusual causes of stroke”.  That was the case with Daniel Gibbs of Carthage, Tennessee.  In this video, find out what caused a healthy 32-year-old who works out regularly to have a stroke.
